In January, the weather in Hawaii is often rainy and cooler due to cold fronts from the north. Clear and warm days can quickly replace cloudy ones. The trade winds blow approximately 40% of the time, compared to 95% in July. January is one of the months when you can see snow on top of Haleakalā. The ocean water warms up to 74°F. The average daily air temperature reaches up to 83°F and dips to 65°F after sunset.
Hawaii Weather in February
February’s average air temperature is similar to January. Daytime highs can reach 83°F, while nighttime lows hover around 65°F. Precipitation may increase to around 38 mm during multi-day rain events. Ocean temperatures remain steady at 74°F.
Weather in Hawaii in March
Spring brings stronger northeast winds and showers, particularly from Haiku to Hana and from Napoli to Kaanapali. Lahaina and Kihei tend to be warm. Ocean temperatures average 75°F. Daytime air temperatures reach up to 81°F, with nighttime lows near 64°F.

April is a breezy month, with trade winds present around 75% of the time, often bringing showers. Weather tends to be milder from mid-April through October. Ocean temperatures can reach 76°F. Daily highs range between 78-85°F and drop to about 66°F at night.

May welcomes early summer warmth. Maui and the other islands warm up to highs of 86°F. Average temperatures across the islands are about 82°F during the day and 72°F at night. Coastal waters reach 76°F. Precipitation is minimal, typically 25–30 mm over 2–3 rainy days.

June is the driest month across Hawaii. Winds are frequent, and while hurricanes develop during this season, they rarely affect Maui directly. Daytime air temperatures vary from 83°F to 88°F and dip to 69°F after sunset. Water temperatures average 78°F, and rain is rare.

July continues the dry, warm trend. Temperatures fluctuate between 84–88°F during the day and 70–72°F at night. The ocean reaches 79°F. Wind and sunshine dominate the weather.
Hawaii Weather in August
August brings the year’s highest temperatures. While hurricanes are uncommon in Hawaii, the risk is slightly higher in late summer. Daytime highs may hit 90°F, with lows around 74°F. Water temperatures reach 80°F. Expect no more than one or two rainy days.

November marks a transition from summer to winter. The first storms may affect the north and northwest regions later in the month. Air temperatures begin to cool to 82°F by day and 68°F at night. Water temperatures hold steady around 78°F. Kauai may still reach daytime highs of 86°F with lows ranging from 65–75°F.

Weather Patterns on Hawaii’s Four Main Islands
Kauai Weather
Kauai, the Garden Isle, has lush landscapes and varied rainfall. While it has a reputation for being the wettest island, it has a mix of dry spells and quick showers. Rainfall is higher on the north shore compared to the south coast.
Oahu Weather
Oahu has the driest climate of the Hawaiian Islands. Bad weather is rare. Temperatures around Honolulu and Waikiki typically range between 81–91°F. Showers are usually brief and light.
Maui Weather
Maui offers ideal weather conditions. Highs range from 82–89°F and lows from 63–71°F. The South Shore (Kihei, Wailea, Kahului, and Makena) is known for sunnier and drier conditions.
The Big Island Weather
The Big Island features 11 of the 13 climate zones. Coastal areas are warm and sunny, while regions like Volcano or Waimea can be significantly cooler. Hilo is rainy, with temperatures between 81–85°F and lows from 66–81°F. Kailua-Kona stays warmer year-round, with highs from 84–89°F and lows from 68–76°F.
