If you are moving to Canada or Mexico, then your cargo is moved in trucks.

These containers are called intermodal containers because they are quickly moved between ships, trucks and railway cars. There are international standards for size and sea worthiness. The two most common ones are the 20’ container and the 40’ container. These can hold up to 1164 cubic feet and 2376 cubic feet of cargo, respectively. If you are relocating to Australia, the UK or Europe then for most people it makes the most sense to let us send your freight in our own containers, regardless of the amount you send.

The biggest exception to this rule will be if you send an automobile with your household goods, in which case a private container will usually be more cost effective for the client.

For most other destinations, the cost for sending a full container load is usually about the same as sending 500 cubic feet of a less than full container load. Just to give you some idea how much these amounts are, a typical fully loaded pallet is about 100 cubic feet.

International air freight is much quicker than maritime freight. While flights usually take less than a day and ships require over a month, international air freight still needs to undergo all of the same customs clearance and destination inspection regulations as any other freight. The time frame for door-to-door international air freight service is around a week.

An added advantage of international air freight for the residential customer is that those who qualify for tax free shipment can usually send an air freight shipment in addition to their shipping container. Please note that international air freight is priced by both weight and volume, where weight is not a concern for most maritime freight and is more expensive than sea freight.
