Checklist for Moving in a Hurry

Published on Apr 12, 2017 by Kfir Cohen

When you decide to relocate your residence to a new country, there are many things to prepare before the moving day itself comes knocking. In the stress of the process, it is very common for people to forget things they should have prepared or taken care of prior to the relocation. This is why we strongly recommend preparing a ‘To Do’ checklist, so you can make sure you take care of everything you should.

If you want to do it like a pro, here are some tips from our world class shipping experts for moving in a hurry.

Preparing Your Luggage

Make sure you pack all of your belongings or at least those you’re planning to bring with you. If you’re selling things, make sure the pick-up date is as close to your moving date as possible, so you won’t be left without a fridge, for example.

Do not start packing before you sort all things into departments and rooms, such as: kitchen tools, kids’ toys, master bedroom things, etc. Make a list of all the things you want to take with you:

  • Documents, including passports, driver’s license, and permits
  • Clothing
  • Jewelry
  • Pictures
  • Personal items
  • Kids’ books
  • Electronics, including laptops, tablets, and cellphones
  • Anything else important for you

Make a master list of boxes’ numbers and their contents, this will prove useful when making sure all has arrived and in sorting boxes into their designated rooms.

Preparing the Permits

If you’re moving to a new country, you will have to make sure you and your family members have all the needed permits in order to enter the new country. If the relocation is a part of a job offer, your workplace is supposed to take care of the permits for you, so just make sure you have those ready at hand.

Leaving the House

Before leaving the house there are a few important things to take care of. If you own the house, make sure someone is going to take care of it, find tenants, collect rent payments, pay bills, and the like. If the house is not yours, make sure the lease is over and that you’ve met all of your responsibilities and duties. In any case remember to:

  • Notify and disconnect from utilities such as electricity, cables, internet services, water, associations, and such
  • Notify the local post office to redirect your mail to a family member or someone who can inform you should something important will be sent to you

Preparing for the Moving Day

To ensure your relocation process goes as quickly and smoothly as possible, it is essential to review and pick a professional moving company that offers world class shipping services by experienced movers. Make sure to locate a company and book your moving date as soon as possible.
