5 Things You Should Do Before Moving to Austria

Austria, the country of green rugged alpine terrains, snowy mountains, and fashionable baroque streets. If you are considering moving to Austria, this article is for you. Here are 5 things you should do before moving to this heaven on earth.

Learn to speak German

It is highly advised for you to start learning German well before moving to Austria. German is notorious for being one of the most difficult languages to master, and knowing very little German will probably make living in Austria way more difficult for you as it will make getting around places and understanding things very tough. There are many platforms that can be utilized to study German online or in class – make good use of them.

Get a visa

Austrian immigration policy offers visitors a variety of visa choices. You can obtain a job seeker visa that is valid for a year if you are a highly qualified individual who hasn’t secured a job yet, or obtain a blue card visa for work and residence that is valid for 2 years, as well as a red-white-red card which is valid for a year. While EU citizens don’t need a visa to enter Austria and work there, applying for any type of visa as a non-EU citizen is a bit of a long process that requires time and paperwork.

Prepare documentation

Before moving to Austria you should have the following documents obtained and ready to be presented to the immigration office: valid passport, residence certificate, and any other document you’ve been asked to prepare. Make sure you apply for all of these in advance to secure your approval to enter Austria by the immigration office.

Work search

Austria has one of the best economies in Europe with a low unemployment rate of 5%. With that being said, there are a few fields in which demand for qualified employees is higher than usual and getting a job in them is fairly easier. Generally, workers in the chemical, steel, and mechanical industries are in high demand as well as workers in software development and IT. Securing a job will also mean, for the most part, receiving a work visa.

Consult a moving company to Austria

Moving to Austria requires adhering to a few regulations regarding ownership and time of receiving visa in terms of goods that can be sent duty free. Consulting a moving company to Austria or an international moving company that works in Austria and knows all relevant laws and regulations is highly recommended and make things a lot easier.
